About Attorney Stephens

The quality representation that individuals receive from Mark R. Stephens has been built on years of experience and a lifetime of dedication to criminal law. This kind of conviction and staunch advocacy for client rights has garnered him a reputation for leadership in the legal community of D.C. and surrounding Virginia.

Attorney Stephen’s early pursuit of and achievements in criminal defense began even before his admission to the bar association in 2004. His commitment to defending the rights of those who have been accused of crimes was evident in his academic career and summer internships in the public defender’s office, where he provided valuable research and support to dozens of felony cases, as well as conducted six criminal jury trials. Even with minimal supervision from practicing lawyers, he was able to bring more than 100 cases to successful resolution for clients.

Invaluable public defense experiences and expeditious promotions came to attorney Stephens as he advocated for client rights at the County Public Defender’s office early in his career. At any moment, he would find himself in the midst of more than 100 open misdemeanor cases, providing each of them with the skill and attention needed to achieve results. In 1998, he was promoted to felony caseloads, still taking on 40 to 60 cases at any given time.

Diverse experiences in felony cases, appeals and negotiations led to the opening of a private practice, the Law Office of Mark D. Stephens, in 2012. Mark achieved favorable results in a variety of appeals prior to opening his practice. Learn more about our new company here.
